It is rare when a soccer player gets a hat trick (three goals) in a match. It is almost unheard of for a player to do that twice in the same week. But, that’s exactly what Cherokee senior Taran Swimmer did this past week.

Cherokee senior Stevi Sutton is on a quest for a ring. Last year, she was the runner-up in the state shot put event with a throw of 34’ 11”. She shattered that mark and her personal best with a throw of 36’ 6” to win the shot put event at the Smoky Mountain Conference track and field championship held at Cherokee High School on Wednesday, April 23.

Cherokee Middle School’s track and field teams competed at the Smoky Mountain Conference championships at Robbinsville High School on Monday, April 21. Darius Lambert took first place in the Boys 1600M run with a time of 5:07.23 and he took second place in the Boys 800M run with a time of 2:26.96.

The Cherokee Braves golf team took first place in convincing fashion at the Blue Ridge-hosted Sapphire National match on Tuesday, April 22.

Senior forward Avery Mintz scored two goals as the Lady Braves tied Tallulah Falls 2-2 at home on Tuesday, April 22.

The Cherokee Youth Wrestling Program took five wrestlers to the Tar Heel State Classic in Chapel Hill April 11-12. “This is a big tournament for all of our kids, but is especially important to the Schoolboy, Cadet and Junior Divisions,” said coach T.W. Saunooke. ...

The Cherokee golf team took second place at The Ridges Golf Club in Hayesville on Thursday, April 17 by carding a combined score of 200.
