Haskell Indian Nations University receives Tribal College Small Business Achievement Grant to Empower Native Entrepreneurs
Haskell Indian Nations University, a Bureau of Indian Education-operated post-secondary institution in Lawrence, Kansas, is one of four Tribal colleges and universities awarded a Tribal College Small Business Achievement Grant by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
S.A.F.E. Nurse Program at CIHA dedicated to helping victims
Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority’s (CIHA) forensic nurse program is called the S.A.F.E. (Sexual Assault and Forensic Examiners) Nurse Program and is dedicated to helping victims of violence. The mission statement is “We SEE YOU. We HEAR YOU. We BELIEVE YOU. We are a SAFE place and are here to help”.

A detention hearing was held for the murder case of Marie Walkingstick Pheasant on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 28 in Cherokee Tribal Court with Judge Sunshine Parker presiding.

Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament results
The 2022 Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament was held in Cherokee on July 8-9. A total of 232 anglers registered for the event with 55 tags being turned in out of the 237 tagged fish.

CHEERLEADING: Smoky Mountain Competition Cheer Club wins at several meets
The Smoky Mountain Competition Cheer Club has continued to excel in wins over the past few weeks. The cheerleaders represent Jackson, Macon, Swain, Haywood counties in North and Rabun County Ga. Participants range from 4-18 years of age, both boys and girls.
SOFTBALL: Middle School Lady Braves finish season undefeated, win conference title
With a dominating performance at Andrews, the Cherokee Middle School Lady Braves finished their 2021 season undefeated and won the Smoky Mountain Conference championship.
