S.A.F.E. Nurse Program at CIHA dedicated to helping victims
Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority’s (CIHA) forensic nurse program is called the S.A.F.E. (Sexual Assault and Forensic Examiners) Nurse Program and is dedicated to helping victims of violence. The mission statement is “We SEE YOU. We HEAR YOU. We BELIEVE YOU. We are a SAFE place and are here to help”.

A detention hearing was held for the murder case of Marie Walkingstick Pheasant on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 28 in Cherokee Tribal Court with Judge Sunshine Parker presiding.
Suspect arraigned in decade-long cold case homicide of Marie Walkingstick Pheasant
Ernest Dewayne Pheasant, 46, was arraigned on the afternoon of Nov. 21, 2023, in the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians criminal court by Judge Monty Beck for the murder of Marie Walkingstick Pheasant.

Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament results
The 2022 Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament was held in Cherokee on July 8-9. A total of 232 anglers registered for the event with 55 tags being turned in out of the 237 tagged fish.

The Cherokee Indian Hospital Emergency Room, Emergency First Responders, Emergency Medical Services are all in a similar boat. They never know when there will be an overdose, a heart failure, a gunshot, a tumble down the stairs, or a car crash will sound the alarm for them to get their gear and make their way to whatever hurt may be ahead of them.
