People with a Medical Cannabis Patient Card can now grow their own cannabis again on tribal lands of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, under certain restrictions.
Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) approves pediatric dialysis treatment feasibility examination
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is going to look at the feasibility of offering pediatric dialysis services on the Qualla Boundary. Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) passed Res. No. 461 (2025), which was introduced by EBCI Ugvwiyuhi (Principal Chief) Michell Hicks, during its regular session on Thursday, May 1.

SPEAKING OF FAITH: Too bad to be saved
The motorcycle ministry is not for wimps or light Christians. Most of the best leaders I met came from backgrounds of x-cons, enforcers, rapists, drug dealers, addicts, pimps and prostitutes, alcoholics, thieves, and murderers – I have known more than just a couple of every one of these. I had submitted a column to another newspaper because I wanted to express my opinion, and a counterpoint to, another commentary. Youth wrestling tournament to be held at Harrah’s Cherokee
This journey takes its next step in Cherokee with the YONA Youth Wrestling Championship. This wrestling event is planned for March 5 and 6 and will be the first of its kind held at the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Convention Center.

OBITUARY: Christopher Hayes Calhoun “Hayes”
Christopher Hayes Calhoun “Hayes”, 64, of the Big Cove Community, passed away peacefully Sept. 26, 2024 at Frye Medical Center in Hickory, N.C. He was born July 22, 1960 to the late Walker and Evelyn Hornbuckle Calhoun.

Robert Phillip Haire, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024. Phil was born May 1, 1936 in Caretta, W.V., to Herman and Pauline Jackson Haire. His family later moved to West Jefferson, N.C., where he grew up.
