Last living EBCI World War II serviceman honored with Congressional Record
The last living member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) has been honored by the U.S. Congress. Cabe “Cody” Monroe Lambert, age 99, an EBCI tribal elder, was recognized in an event on Thursday, Aug. 14 with the reading of a Congressional Record in his honor.

WCU Printmaking Class partners with KPEP on handmade books
Western Carolina University (WCU) Asst. Prof. Tatiana Potts has partnered with Kituwah Preservation Education Program (KPEP) Curriculum Developer Hartwell Francis and other Cherokee language learners in KPEP to produce several books illustrated and handmade by WCU students in her Introduction to Printmaking course.

BASKETBALL: Lady Braves win SMC tournament title in barn-burner
Whitney Rogers, Cherokee sophomore, hit a free throw with 19.4 seconds left on the clock in overtime to seal the deal as the Lady Braves won the Smoky Mountain Conference (SMC) tournament on Friday, Feb. 17. Cherokee defeated the Robbinsville Lady Black Knights 72-71 in a barn-burner at the Ken Solesbee Athletic Center at Andrews High School.
