The annual Tribal Council Awards Day program was held on Friday, May 9 at the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds.
WCU holds commencements for record-breaking spring graduating class
Commencement ceremonies held for a record-breaking spring graduating class at Western Carolina University included recognition for undergraduate students recording perfect 4.0 GPAs, the awarding of an honorary doctorate to a Flat Rock resident and an address by one of the University of North Carolina system’s premier teachers.

The JusBoyz running program has participation that exceeded the expectations of Cherokee Choices. JusBoyz is a running program created by Cherokee Choices to fight Type 2 diabetes and to encourage young boys to develop a love for running.
McCoy makes history as a freshman
Spencer McCoy has made history…as a freshman. The EBCI tribal member was named Most Valuable Male Athlete for 2011-12 at Robbinsville High School, and according to school officials is the first freshman to ever be named All-Conference in Smoky Mountain Conference history.
