Cherokee Police Commission holds July meeting
The Cherokee Police Commission met in the Ginger Lynn Welch large conference room on the afternoon of Thursday, July 17. The meeting was called to order at noon by Chairperson Anita Lossiah.
Voter participation around 32 percent for EBCI Primary
Around 32 percent of the registered voters of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians turned out to cast a ballot in the Primary Election on Thursday, July 17. According to information from the EBCI Board of Elections, 1,370 of the 4,285 registered voters cast a ballot for a voter participation of 31.97 percent.

The Cherokee High School (CHS) track and field team participated in the Swain County High School Invitational meet held at Enka High School in Candler, N.C. on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 25.

Several athletes on the Cherokee Middle School (CMS) track and field team won titles at the Smoky Mountain Conference Championship (SMC) held at Andrews High School in Andrews, N.C. on the afternoon of Monday, April 24.
Atlanta Braves to host Second Annual Native American All-Star Baseball Showcase
The Atlanta Braves will host the second annual Native American All-Star Baseball Showcase at Truist Park, June 24-25. The top 50 high school baseball players of Native American descent from around the country will participate in a pro-style workout on Saturday, June 24 and a showcase game on Sunday, June 25.

James Daniel Arch (Hooch), 59, of the Painttown Community, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of Marie Rose Arch of Cherokee and Butch Long of Cherokee.
