Federal jury convicts Bryson City woman of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death
A federal jury in Asheville has convicted Shannon White, 43, of Bryson City, of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death, announced Andrew Murray, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
Three Native American women elected to Congress
For the first time, the U.S. House of Representatives will have three Native American women. Congresswomen Sharice Davids (D-Kan.) and Deb Haaland (D-N.M.) were both re-elected, and they will be joined by Yvette Herrell, a Republican who won in New Mexico’s Second Congressional District.

BASKETBALL: Braves, Lady Braves top 90 points in wins
The Cherokee Braves (7-9) and the Lady Braves (14-2) both topped 90pts in wins at Rosman on Friday, Jan. 17. The Braves won 95-76, and the Lady Braves won big over the Lady Tigers 92-52.
WRESTLING: Cherokee beats Jackets 42-24
The Cherokee Wrestling team added another notch to the win column on Thursday, Jan. 16 as they beat the visiting Hayesville Yellow Jackets by a team score of 42-24. The Braves continue building momentum with their second team victory of the week as the 2013-14 season winds down and heads into post season action.
