CIPD traffic stop on Goose Creek Road results in narcotics seizure
Earlier on Wednesday, Oct. 15, Community Response Officers (CRO)/CIPD Narcotics Division with the Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) conducted a traffic stop on Goose Creek Road within the boundaries of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Community Response Officers (CRO) with the Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) conducted a traffic stop in the vicinity of Cherokee United Methodist Church, within the boundaries of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Dedicated service: VOC Building named for Kimlyn Sneed Lambert
Some of the hardest working employees on the Qualla Boundary work in a building that now bears the name of a woman who dedicated her career to them. The building housing the Vocational Opportunities of Cherokee, Inc. (VOC) has been named the Kimlyn Sneed Lambert Vocational Rehab Center.

One Feather wins 11 N.C. Press Association awards
The Cherokee One Feather has won 11 awards in the 2025 North Carolina Press Association Awards. The banquet will be held on Sept. 18 in Raleigh, N.C.

The life and military service of the late Fred B. Lunsford, an elder of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians who was a World War II veteran and a Baptist minister, was honored during a ceremony at the Steve Youngdeer American Legion Post 143 headquarters in Cherokee, N.C. on the morning of Wednesday, July 2.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD: Cherokee Middle participates in Hayesville meet
The Cherokee Middle School (CMS) track and field team participated in a multi-school meet at the Hayesville High School track in Hayesville, N.C. on the chilly afternoon of Monday, March 18.
BASKETBALL: Lady Braves bring home State Title
On the evening of Friday, March 15 in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, the Cherokee Lady Braves defeated the East Columbus Gators in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 1A State Championship, earning the state basketball title for the second time in school history since the first title in 1996.
TRACK & FIELD: Cherokee participates in meet at Montreat College
The Cherokee High School (CHS) track and field team participated in the Swain County High School Invitational meet held at the Montreat College track in Black Mountain, N.C. on the afternoon of Thursday, March 14. A.C. Reynolds won both the men’s and women’s team events.

OBITUARY: Harold George
Harold George, a cherished member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on Sept. 20, 1953, in Cherokee, N.C., Harold led a life filled with love, laughter.
OBITUARY: Chanice Taylor
Chanice Taylor, age 32, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Asheville, N.C. Chanice “Mac a doo” Taylor was born on April 28, 1993, in Sylva, N.C., to Robert Taylor and Debbie Taylor.
OBITUARY: Geraldine Nancy Bradley
Geraldine Nancy Bradley, 87, of the Wolftown Community, passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday morning, July 29, 2025, at the Cherokee Indian Hospital in Cherokee, N.C.

Tribal member a finalist for Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award
The Western North Carolina Historical Association announced the selection of five finalists for the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award recently and a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is included. Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle was nominated for her book, “Even As We Breathe: A Novel”.
Cherokee National Treasure Betty Frogg featured in new exhibit
“Betty Christie Frogg: Carrying Her Culture” is on display at Cherokee Nation’s Saline Courthouse Museum.
The Queen House Gallery offers opportunity to Cherokee artists
