EBCI pageants cancelled; royalty to serve another year
Due to concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) will not have royalty pageants this fall.
Cherokee Preservation Foundation announces Spring Grants for 2020
The Cherokee Preservation Foundation awarded 16 spring grants to partners within Western North Carolina and beyond. Grants totaled more than $2 million and were awarded to projects advancing the Foundation’s mission of improving the quality of life for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and neighboring communities.

COMMENTARY: Buying love
I spent 27 years of my life with dogs. I mean, I had dogs before, and a couple of cats, but the dogs and cats before adulthood, and my pets were really my mother’s responsibility along with me. I wasn’t primary caretaker then. I was as dependent for my life as the pets were. Mom let me say that they were my pets, but the reality was that they were her pets.

As time keeps on progressing, we are to become ever more faithful and ‘sure-footed’ having read all our instructions given in His Word for our best understanding of what’s expected of each person in each “household of faith”.
COMMENTARY: Let me tell you what I have heard
Water coolers and coffee pots are congregational points for many in our community who work, attend meetings, or any other community gathering. It even works when we invite friends and family over to the dining room table to impart knowledge.

OBITUARY: Mark Welch Crowe
Mark Welch Crowe, 74, of the Big Y Community of Cherokee, went to meet his heavenly Father on Sunday, June 5, 2022 while at the Cherokee Indian Hospital. Mark was a servant of God and loved to share the Word. He was a member of the Big Witch Baptist Church.

Donald Bernard “Don” Lambert, 82, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away surrounded by his family on Feb. 11, 2022 in Lexington, Ky. He was born in Cherokee on March 12, 1939.
OBITUARY: Samuel L. Lambert
Samuel L. Lambert, age 88, of Cherokee, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at his residence after an extended illness. He is the son of the late Joseph G. Lambert and Louisa Goforth Lambert.
