Tribe’s medical cannabis business gearing up
Medical cannabis is in the works for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and will be dispensed in 2023. Qualla is the corporation set up to run the business for the Tribe, and the dispensary will be located at a building known to many on the Qualla Boundary – the old Tribal Bingo Building.

Cherokee students to revisit “Lion King Jr.” in upcoming performances
Several years ago, Cherokee students took to the stage and presented “Lion King Jr.” which was the first musical production in the history of Cherokee Central Schools (CCS). Now, many of those same students – a lot of them now seniors at Cherokee High School, are revisiting the play for a set of upcoming performances.

From now on, we are on our journey to Heaven. On this journey we must compare ourselves only to Jesus, not to others around us, so we can say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

I am not jaded by anyone’s perception of a rigged system or the folks who bloviate about “they are going to do what they want, and nothing can change that”. If we all think that way, then it will be so for sure.

The Cherokee Braves (9-5) ended their 2016 campaign with a third round playoff loss on a chilly night in Mitchell County.

The Cherokee Braves (9-4) won their sixth straight game of the season in dramatic fashion as they edged the North Duplin Rebels in the second round of the 1A state playoffs on Friday, Nov. 25.

Frances (Sue) Jean Huskey Green, 81, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021. She was born July 5, 1940 to the late John and Ruth Lambert Huskey. Frances lived in the 3200 Acre Tract of Cherokee.
