Members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Tribal leadership attended the historic Tri-Council meeting recently, a significant gathering that unites the three sovereign Cherokee nations: the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians, and the Cherokee Nation.

Harrah’s Cherokee donates $70,000 to Folds of Honor
Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos presented a $70,000 check to Folds of Honor on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The donation is the result of funds raised during the company’s six-week beverage fundraising event, in addition to the generous donation of $10,000 from its SALUTE Committee.

Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament results
The 2022 Tim Hill Memorial Fish Tournament was held in Cherokee on July 8-9. A total of 232 anglers registered for the event with 55 tags being turned in out of the 237 tagged fish.

During the controversy over the constitution, the forces opposing the people’s right to choose kept using the term “unintended consequences” to describe the alleged damage the proposed constitution as written would do to the workings of the government.

The tribe needs a radio station. Many think that AM and FM radio are antiquated, a thing of the past that has outlived its purpose. In a world where information is increasingly a pay-to-access proposition, AM/FM radio broadcasts remain available to anyone with a receiver. In vehicles, it may be the only immediate access to emergency information there is.

Hallah Panther, Lady Braves junior, won the NCHSAA 1A State Championship in the Women’s Pole Vault at the state meet held at NC A&T Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro on Saturday, May 18.
