Council considers various referendum items
Tribal Council considered several pieces of legislation involving potential referendum items during its regular session on Thursday, June 1. One of those was passed, and the other two were tabled for further discussion.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Disappointed in lack of Christmas lights
It’s disappointing that our town’s usual Christmas Lights displays aren’t even up yet. All you see is the lights on the (Oconaluftee) Island and on a few lightpoles here and there throughout town.
SPEAKING OF FAITH: Missing the Christ of Christmas
A familiar decoration at Christmas is the Nativity Scene. Some people adorn their homes with small statues or their yards with large, illumined figures of the Nativity. We know the characters all too well.

OBITUARY: Harriett Roberta Crowe Rice
Harriett Roberta Crowe Rice, age 82, passed away on Monday, Feb. 13 at Mission Hospital after a brief illness. She is the daughter of the late, Edwin Clement Endros-Crowe and Cinda Reed.

OBITUARY: Mary Ann Jacobs
Mary Ann Jacobs, age 87, of Cherokee N.C., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023. She was born on May 5, 1935, in Chicago, Ill. She lived in Cherokee; Suitland, Md.; and Chandler, Ariz. before returning to the mountains with her husband Harvey in 1998.
