Great Smoky Mountains National Park received a report of a small wildland fire near Hannah Mountain, south of Abrams Creek, the evening of Monday, Aug. 26.
CCS School Board adds Cherokee Speakers Memorial Day to CCS Calendar
The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) met on Monday, Aug. 15 in the Central Office Board Room. The meeting was called to order at 4 p.m. by Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.
Grant-funded welcome signs for Cultural District discussed at Planning Board

There are those of us who are gung-ho about exercising our rights, especially the right to vote, to the fullest. Especially when it comes to tribal elections, because in the EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Charter & Governing Document, civil rights are almost non-existent.

Tori Teesateskie, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, is making her mark at the collegiate level in her freshman year with the Johnson University (Tenn.) Lady Royals.
Gymnastics provides discipline and fun for Cherokee girls
Several times a week, for multiple hours each time, Shawnee Kirkland and Sara Toineeta travel from Cherokee to Franklin to participate in the sport they love – gymnastics.
WRESTLING: Three EBCI tribal members win state wrestling titles
Three members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) took home 1A State wrestling titles at the NCHSAA State Wrestling Tournament held at the Greensboro Colliseum on Feb. 21-22.
