Newly selected, government-approved, delegates have been selected from various segments of the community, including the appointees from the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Executive Office and elected officials from Tribal Council.

There is a black mark on our nation’s history that resulted in untold suffering and trauma that resonated across the decades in tribal communities throughout the nation: the Indian boarding schools that operated in this country during the 19th and 20th centuries.

As keepers of our traditions and sovereignty, we vehemently oppose any attempts to exploit or appropriate the rich cultural legacy of Cherokee people. Our identity is deeply rooted in our history and connection to our land.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and other federally recognized tribes throughout Indian Country have opposed groups claiming to be Indian tribes for many years.

It’s that time of year again. Whatever media you choose, you are seeing more and more political advertisements, sometimes back-to-back repeats of themselves. The first stop in the race for coveted seats of power in our township, county, state, and federal government races is the North Carolina Primary Election.

Psalms 90:12 says, “So teach us to number our days, That we may get us a heart of wisdom.”

Cherokee has a long, detailed historical record. We have been blessed with tenacious record-keeping by our ancestors, the creation of the syllabary by Sequoyah, the continued passing of knowledge, culture and language through generations.
