COMMENTARY: Tribal Archives should be fast-tracked
My daughter was in the second grade when the deadline passed for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to have a Tribal Archives facility constructed. She is now a freshman at the University of Iowa and the facility is still in the planning stage.

COMMENTARY: Please curb use of the term ‘addict’
Recently, I made a post in regards to our syringe exchange program, and I was respectfully corrected when using the term “addict”. I removed that word and took some time to think about it.

COMMENTARY: Traditional plant gathering, growing is good for the entire community
Since time immemorial, Cherokee people have harvested traditional plants, such as sochan and ramps, from the beautiful mountains in western North Carolina. Over time, laws have prevented tribal members from harvesting these healthy plants.
EDITORIAL: Time to retool the rules
Our law is frequently adjusted. Every two years a new set of government representatives adds, deletes, and amends our laws. That is their job, their responsibility.

Yes, I support the exchange program’s efforts to reduce the spread of disease, but I don’t feel good about it.
