CHS junior to attend Governor’s School program
Scarlett Guy, a junior at Cherokee High School, has been selected to attend the Governor’s School of North Carolina which is a five and one-half week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school students.

Beloved Woman to receive honorary UNC Asheville degree
UNC Asheville will celebrate Spring 2017 Commencement on Saturday, May 13, with alumna Ko Barrett, deputy assistant administrator for research for NOAA, serving as commencement speaker for the morning ceremony. Barrett will receive an honorary degree, along with honorary degree recipients EBCI Beloved Woman Ellen Bird, artist Stoney Lamar, and pediatrician Olson Huff.
Beloved Man to receive honorary WCU degree
He is a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II, a Cherokee historian and storyteller, an Indian ballgame caller, a Cherokee first language speaker, and soon he will be a doctor.
Cherokee residents on SCC president’s, dean’s lists
More than 160 students made the president’s list, and 134 others made the dean’s list for the fall semester at Southwestern Community College.
WCU to hold Open House for prospective students
Prospective college students will have a chance to learn what life on campus is all about as Western Carolina University holds Open House on Saturday, March 25.
CES students’ artwork to be displayed at WCU
A total of 26 Cherokee Elementary School students will have their artwork at display at the annual Youth Art Month Show at WCU’s Fine and Performing Arts Center.
