Five Cherokee athletes sign letters of intent
Five athletes at Cherokee High School signed letters of intent to play college sports on National Signing Day. Four members of the Cherokee Braves 1A State Championship football team and one member of the Lady Braves basketball team signed during a ceremony held in the Charles George Memorial Arena on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 7.
BASKETBALL: Braves, Lady Braves finish regular season atop Conference
The Cherokee Braves (16-3) and Lady Braves (14-5) both finished their regular season atop the Big Smoky Mountain Conference.

Two Cherokee varsity basketball players hit career milestones on the same evening. Holden Straughan, Braves senior, and Tori Teesateskie, Lady Braves junior, both scored the 1,000th point of their career during games against Andrews at the Charles George Memorial Arena on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The Cherokee Braves (15-3), who have already clinched the Big Smoky Mountain Conference regular season title, are still unbeaten in conference play as they beat Murphy 85-65 in a game at the Charles George Memorial Arena on the evening of Monday, Feb. 5.

BASKETBALL: Braves, Lady Braves top Swain in road games
For the second time in the regular season, Cherokee swept Swain County. In a road game on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Lady Braves (11-5) beat the Lady Maroon Devils by 30-points (75-45), and the Braves (12-3) followed suit with a 98-75 win.
