The Lady Braves (18-2) avenged an early season loss to Hayesville with a key 53-40 win over the Lady Yellow Jackets at the Charles George Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 4. With the win, the Lady Braves are now in first place in the Big Smoky Mountain Conference.

The CMS Lady Braves fell short in a hard fought, overtime battle with the Robbinsville Black Knights in the semi-final round of the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament held in Murphy on Monday, Feb. 3.

A total of five EBCI tribal members won titles at the Smoky Mountain Conference titles at the conference tournament at Hiwassee Dam on Saturday, Feb. 1 including: Levi Swearengin, Cherokee, 126; Russell Bigmeat, Swain, 136; Jaron Bradley, Cherokee, 152; Nathan Craig, Robbinsville, 170; and Spencer McCoy, Swain, 195.

Spencer McCoy, an EBCI tribal member and a junior at Swain County High School, has been named to the NCPreps.com All-State 1A team as a middle linebacker.

The Cherokee Middle School Braves traveled to Murphy to play the Andrews Wildcats in the opening round of the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The Cherokee Wrestling team fell to the Swain County Maroon Devils on Thursday, Jan. 30 by a team score of 60-18. The Braves picked up three pin falls, gave up three pin falls and five forfeits.

Lady Braves’ Kendall Toineeta, a junior, was named the Citizen-Times Western North Carolina Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 3.  She was honored for her play against Swain on Thursday, Jan. 30 and against Highlands on Friday, Jan. 31.  She scored 10pts and had 10...
