Qualla Boundary participates in Special Olympics Spring Games
The cloudy skies didn’t dampen one smile or spirit at the annual Special Olympics of North Carolina Far West Spring Games. Over 250 athletes participated in the event held Friday, May 9 at Macon Middle School.

GOLF: Cherokee takes fifth at conference, advances to state
The second round of the 36-hole Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament was played at the par-70, 6,009yd Sapphire National Golf Club in Sapphire on Monday, April 28. Tagan Crowe and Christian Ensley led the charge for the Cherokee Braves to hold off the challenging Robbinsville Black Knights en route to a NCHSAA Regionals berth.
TRACK & FIELD: Three from Cherokee advance to state
Three Cherokee High School athletes have advanced to this week’s 1A State Track Championship in Greensboro. They earned their spots by placing in the top four at the 1A West Regional Track Championships held at A.C. Reynolds High School on Saturday, May 3.

WEIGHTLIFTING: Solis sets State, National Record
Damian Solis, an EBCI tribal member from the Big Cove community, set the new Iron Boy Powerlifting State and National record for the 275lb weight class with a deadlift of 600lbs at the IBP Tarheel State Powerlifting Championships in McAdenville on Saturday, April 12.
SOCCER: Swimmer gets second hat trick as Lady Braves win 3-2
It is rare when a soccer player gets a hat trick (three goals) in a match. It is almost unheard of for a player to do that twice in the same week. But, that’s exactly what Cherokee senior Taran Swimmer did this past week.
