EBCI Law Enforcement monthly report for July
Cherokee Indian Police Department (CIPD) Chief of Police Carla Neadeau compiles a monthly report for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Law Enforcement Division. Chief Neadeau shared the following data for the month of July.

Patients not showing up for their appointments within the health system of the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) is becoming an increasingly larger problem.
Election Ordinance Work Session presents shortened election cycle
On the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 7, Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) held a work session for Election Ord. No. 52, which was tabled. In the work session, the Election Board proposed several changes to the code, including shortening the overall election cycle.

Tribal member appointed to head University of Miami Supreme Court
Dallas J. Bennett, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), has been appointed to the top position in the University of Miami (UM) Student Government Supreme Court. A junior majoring in history with a minor in political science, he has been appointed as the university’s Student Government Supreme Court Chief Justice – a position never before held by an EBCI tribal member.
Celebrating 35 years of service of Deb West
On Thursday, March 30, it was business as usual at the Cherokee Senior Citizens program. Clients began arriving as early as 10 a.m. for activities and lunch. On that day, like every day, announcements began around 11:15 a.m. But Thursday was a little different. Unbeknownst to the staff who were asked to gather in the dining room, a special announcement was being made.

Charles Edwin McCoy, age 92, has “gone to the big job.” He peacefully transitioned to the next chapter on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on Oct. 15, 1931, in Cherokee, N.C., Charles was the son of Jesse and Ethel Owle McCoy.
