Scare-O-Kee planning is in full swing

The Scare-O-Kee planning committee, headed up by Mollie Grant, met again on Wednesday, Aug. 30 to continue preparations. Several entities participated in the meeting including the Cherokee Indian Police Department, EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Emergency Services, EBCI Facilities Management, EBCI Communications, EBCI Destination Marketing, and the Cherokee Water and Sewer Department.

Secretary Bradley appointed to state medicine board

A tribal health official has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors for the N.C. Institute of Medicine (NCIOM).  Gov. Roy Cooper announced the appointment of Vickie Bradley, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and the Secretary of the EBCI Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) division, on Friday, Jan. 7.

Do we realize how scared those twelve men had to have been to have screamed out as they began to think they were seeing a ghost near them walking on the water?  Those who were fishermen knew they’d never seen a man walking on the water like they saw one out in the middle of the water, in the rough sea, or at least thought they were seeing one.  All of them had cried out in fear.
