“We are all home”: Annual Kituwah Celebration held
The smell of bean bread wafted through the air as the sounds of children laughing, Cherokee songs being sung, and men and boys playing stickball could be heard. It was all at Kituwah, the Mother Town of the Cherokee.
Groundbreaking held for new HIP Community in Tsisqwohi
A total of 24 one-bedroom homes are being planned for a new HIP Community in Tsisqwohi (Birdtown). Tribal leaders broke ground on the project on the afternoon of Friday, May 31.
Museum of the Cherokee People made to remove sign
A sign for the Museum of the Cherokee People was taken down on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 29 in order to comply with an order from the Tribal Business Committee of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).

COMMENTARY: Making the language a priority
We have watched as tribal officials and language proponents desperately plead with the community to get more involved and engaged in the language. Millions of dollars have been spent on language education facilities, teacher education, and public relations efforts.

The Cherokee High School track and field team traveled to Hayesville on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 1 to participate in a tri-school meet with Hayesville and Hiwassee Dam.
Fire Mountain Inferno returns for third year
May 22 marked the beginning of the Third Annual Fire Mountain Inferno, drawing in mountain bikers from all of the region to participate in the two-day event held in Cherokee.
