The first annual Tsalagi Aniwonisgi Didanvdadisdi (Cherokee Speakers Memorial Day) event was hosted by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the Kalvgviditsa Tsalagi Aniwonisgi Tsunatsohisdihi (Cherokee Speakers Place), located adjacent to the New Kituwah Academy in Cherokee, N.C.
Fatality near Milepost 296 on the Blue Ridge Parkway
On Sunday, Nov. 24, at approximately 5:35 p.m., the Blue Ridge Parkway Communications Center received a report of a lost hiker at Price Lake Trail, near milepost 296 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

COMMENTARY: What will it take?
The purpose stated in the Charter for the census is to ensure that the tribal communities (six) have equitable representation on Tribal Council. The census is supposed to determine the respective voting weight of each Tribal Council seat.

Student-athletes at Cherokee High School were honored during the school’s annual Athletic Awards event at the Charles George Memorial Arena on the evening of Thursday, July 15.
Gadusi Bike Community opens doors to mountain biking
The Gadusi Bike Community was founded by Jones-Bowman Fellow Levi West in 2019. Each Jones-Bowman LAP fellow must complete a leadership goal as well as a cultural goal and have $4000 to accomplish these goals. As a leadership goal, West had a desire to share his love of mountain biking with the community for good reason.
WRESTLING: Two EBCI tribal members win state titles
Robbinsville’s Kyle Fink and Ben Wachacha, both members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), won individual wrestling state championships on Saturday, June 26.

Phyllis Ann Lambert Tomlinson, 77, of Cherokee, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, after an extended illness in Haywood Regional Hospital.

Kevin Robert Blaine Wahnetah, of Cherokee, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, in Gainesville, Ga. at the age of 35 after battling a brief illness. Born on Dec. 2, 1988, he is the son of Sandy Welch and Tom Wahnetah (Clara).

Emma Darlene Owle, 63, of Cherokee, passed away after an extended illness on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Harris Regional Hospital. She was born July 6, 1960, in Gaston County, N.C., to the late Burl Barker and Reba Smith.
