Parents accuse Swain County Schools employee of racial discrimination
On Sept. 13, Leslie Frankiewicz filed a grievance against Swain Co. football Head Coach Sherman Holt for racial discrimination against his child, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and a former student at Swain County High School.

Braves showcase Broadway in fifth annual show
Songs and dances from Broadway filled the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center on the evening of Friday, Dec. 8. Students in the Cherokee Central Schools Dance and Musical Theatre Program put on the 5th Annual Braves on Broadway show.

SPEAKING OF FAITH: Rest in the Righteousness of Jesus
I came by today to say the Righteousness is Jesus. He’s our Righteousness and as He said, it is just for the sake of that Name. Ecotourism. Sounds like a truly scientific word with deep meaning. The premise of this philosophy isn’t rocket science. It is a merging of two words: ecology and tourism.

We all love our stories. From gossip around the kitchen table to multi-million-dollar production, storytelling is a global cultural phenomenon. It is the way we have passed on history, genealogy, medicine, explained science, and even prayed.

FOOTBALL: Braves finish regular season with big rivalry win
The Cherokee Braves (5-4) ended their regular season in style with a big win over rival Swain Co. (4-5) on the rainy evening of Friday, Oct. 29. Cherokee gained 324 yards in total offense en route to a 36-7 victory over the Maroon Devils.
CROSS COUNTRY: Braves win 1A West Regional Championship
Gutting it out in the cold and rain, the Cherokee Braves won the 1A West Regional Championship and qualified for state during the regional meet held at Kituwah on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 30.
ON THE SIDELINES: What a season for the Lady Braves
This year’s Cherokee Lady Braves varsity volleyball team did that and made history this season. Finishing the season at 13-11 (6-4 in Smoky Mountain Conference), the team qualified for the 1A state playoffs for the first time in school history.
