Continuing to grow: Great Smoky Cannabis Co. expanding
On an overcast and chilly late winter morning, Simon Montelongo works in a room, clean as a laboratory, with fellow employees processing cannabis in various products. Montelongo, a lead processor at the Great Smoky Cannabis Co. farm, is one of over 225 employees with the company which continues to grow and expand.
Senate Indian Affairs Committee advances 25 bills to full Senate
U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaiʻi), Vice Chairman of the Committee, led a business meeting of the Senate Committee of Indian Affairs in Washington, DC, to consider 25 bills before the Committee.

Chief’s Awards presented
The Chief’s Awards were presented by Ugvwiyuhi (Principal Chief) Michell Hicks and Taline Ugvwiyu (Vice Chief) Alan B. Ensley in the Cherokee Tribal Council House on the morning of Wednesday, May 8.
Shannon Swimmer named director of WCU Cherokee Center
After several years working in tribal law, Swimmer has returned to WCU in a new capacity, as director of the Cherokee Center.
Crowe receives Lula Owl Gloyne Person of Excellence Award
The Cherokee Indian Hospital Foundation has announced Susan Crowe, manager of the CIHA (Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority) Eye Clinic, as the recipient of the 2023 Lula Owl Gloyne Person of Excellence Award.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, we have got to do something about our traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian. The way I see it, most of our worries come from a lack of both manpower and technology.
