EBCI Attorney General releases statement regarding Kloepfer & Mahler v. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, et al. potential settlement

On May 21, 2025, the Cherokee County government released a statement that Kloepfer & Mahler v. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, et al. filed in Federal District Court in Case No. 1:23-CV-158, and the companion case filed in Cherokee Tribal Court in Case No. CV23-619 had been settled.

On a drizzly afternoon in Aniwodihi (Painttown), two women are hard at work preserving food for the Cherokee community.  The Tribal Cannery of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), which serves everyone, is located in the new Tribal Foods Distribution building at 2260 Old Mission Road in Cherokee, N.C.

During the September session of Dinilawigi (Tribal Council), the American Eagle Foundation (AEF) presented. The purpose of their visit was to solicit a partnership with the tribe to develop a rehabilitation and hospital facility for eagles and other birds of prey. The visit was facilitated by the Steve Youngdeer Post of the American Legion Post 143.

BASKETBALL: Jordan Arkansas signs with Concordia University Texas

Jordan Arkansas, a Cherokee Braves senior and a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, will be continuing his basketball journey in the Lone Star State.  During a ceremony at the Charles George Memorial Arena on the afternoon of Monday, May 23, he signed a letter of intent to play for the Concordia University Texas (Austin, Texas) Tornados next year.
