Federal Legislative updates of interest to EBCI citizens
Starting with this month, the One Feather will provide legislative updates on various pieces of federal legislation of interest to members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
DOI: Recognition plan for Lumbee has been developed but not yet released
The Department of the Interior press office responded on Monday, April 28 to a question from the One Feather regarding the memorandum stating, “The Department of the Interior has developed a plan in accordance with President Trump’s memorandum and will provide an update when appropriate.”
Cherokee community gathers to support Autism education and acceptance
April is both World Autism Month and National Autism Acceptance Month in the United States. The Jackson, Swain, Qualla Boundary Autism Support Group hosted the 2nd Annual Cherokee Autism Celebration in the Peaches Squirrell Sports & Recreation Complex in Cherokee, N.C. on the evening of Thursday, April 24.

CPF gives grant funding to culturally-based leadership programs
The Cherokee Preservation Foundation (CPF) has awarded the Ray Kinsland Leadership Institute (RKLI), $384,500 and its college undergraduate program, the Jones-Bowman Leadership Award Program, $153,000.00 to carry out their mission to create a community of life-long, selfless leaders deeply rooted in Cherokee culture.

Each year, over a thousand children and their families flock to the Oconaluftee Island Park on the Qualla Boundary (Cherokee, N.C.) to take part in the annual Talking Trees Children’s Trout Derby.

OBITUARY: Tally Bradley
Tally Bradley, 22, of Cherokee in the Wolftown Community, went on his Heavenly Ride Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of Sarah and David Creson of Cherokee and Jud Bradley of Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ed Laws; great grandmother, Elsie (Mawie) Rowland; cousin, John Davis; and grandfather, Joe Bradley.
