Settlement investigation complete, no wrongdoing found
Tribal Council launched an investigation in January following a settlement payout to seven former employees of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. That investigation is now complete and has found there was no wrongdoing by Principal Chief Richard G. Sneed in the settlement process, and Tribal Council has committed to writing tribal law dealing with how lawsuit settlements are handled in the future.
Five issues discussed at Town Hall Meeting
Following the recent passage of legislation to hold bi-annual Town Hall Meetings for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the first such event was held on the evening of Tuesday, May 15 at The Gathering Place on the campus of Cherokee Central Schools.
Tribal member embarks on run to Oklahoma
Lau Tzu, 6th century Chinese philosopher, once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” One EBCI tribal member took that first step on the morning of Monday, May 14 as he embarked on a 1,212 mile run to Tahlequah, Okla.
