CCS School Board holds meeting on March 18
The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) met on Monday, March 18 in the Central Office Board Room. The meeting was called to order at 4:44 p.m. by Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.

The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools (CCS) met on Monday, March 4, 2024, in a joint, special called meeting with the School Board of Swain County Schools (SCS) in the Swain East Media Center. The meeting was called to order at 4:52 p.m. by SCS Board Member Cody White and CCS Chairperson Jennifer Thompson.

For over 50 years, NCAIED has been helping Indian Tribes and businesses gain access to economic opportunity and growth. The organization also recognizes outstanding American Indian enterprises at this annual conference. Indigenous Boutique & Spa owners were honored as Native Woman Business Owners of the Year.
Cherokee Senior Citizens Center named in honor of Deb West
A long-time employee of the Cherokee Senior Citizens Program has been honored by having a building named after her.
EBCI students receive Tribal Council Awards
The following students, all members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, received a Tribal Council Award for academic excellence during a ceremony at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort Convention Center on the morning of Monday, May 1.

TRACK & FIELD: Cherokee boys team wins five-school meet
With a score of 171 points, the Cherokee High School (CHS) boys track and field team took first place in a five-school meet held at Cherokee on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 30. The Cherokee girls team took third place at the event with a score of 70.
TRACK & FIELD: Cherokee Middle hosts seven-school meet
The Cherokee Middle School (CMS) track and field team hosted a seven-school meet on the afternoon of Monday, March 28 at the Cherokee High School track.
BASKETBALL: McMillan signs to play at East Central C.C.
Leilaya McMillan, a senior member of the Cherokee Lady Braves basketball team, will continue her basketball career at East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss. She signed a letter of intent during an event held in the Charles George Memorial Arena on the morning of Wednesday, March 30.

Kathy “Momma Hatt” West, 66, of the Big Cove Community, went home to be with the Lord Sunday Dec. 31, 2023.

Louise Ann Reed, 65 of the Snowbird Community, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at Cherokee Indian Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
