Cultural District plans in the works at Nikwasi Mound
The Nikwasi Initiative has the deed to the Nikwasi (sometimes called Noquisiyi) Mound in the town of Franklin and serves as the mound’s current caretakers. They are hoping to expand educational opportunities at the site with their new Noquisiyi Cultural District site plan.
Interior Dept. seeks nominations for Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names
The Department of the Interior announced recently that it is seeking nominations for members of the new Advisory Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names. The committee will identify geographic names and federal land unit names that are considered derogatory and solicit proposals on replacement names.

Jacobs selected to AISES Board of Directors
The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) announced the appointment of six new members of its Board of Directors recently, as well as the full slate of board members for 2017-2020. GOLF: Two Lady Braves compete at State
The Lady Braves Golf team made school history at Cherokee High School by sending two members to the NCHSAA State Finals on Oct. 27 and 28.
CROSS COUNTRY: Toineeta qualifies for state meet
Kendall Toineeta, a senior member of the Cherokee High School girls cross country team, placed 14th at the 1A West Regional meet at Asheville Christian Academy on Saturday, Oct. 25 and qualified for the state meet.
FOOTBALL: Johnson nets 188 yards receiving in Braves loss
Dustin Johnson, Braves wide receiver, had a massive game at Rosman on Friday, Oct. 24 as he caught 9 passes for 188 yards and 2 TDs.
