Cherokee celebrates Earth Week
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) celebrated Earth Week (April 17-22) with several events on and around the Qualla Boundary encouraging knowledge of environmental and wildlife issues.

“We’re not going to lose it. We’re not,” Bo Lossiah, New Kituwah Academy curriculum and instruction supervisor, told a crowd gathered following the Annual Cherokee Speakers Walk of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).
“An experience for the ages”: 407 Project holds latest groundbreaking
The next piece is in place for the 407: Gateway to Adventure project in Sevier County, Tennessee. Smoky Gap is the name of the newest attraction to the property owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. It is set to be completed by 2025, and an official groundbreaking was held on site on the morning of Tuesday, April 11.

The Remember the Removal Ride (RTR), which retraces the northern route of the Trail of Tears, will not be held this year due to concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19).
4-H Cooking Challenge engaging youth in food preparation
While in quarantine, children are learning important lessons about cooking, nutrition, and health in the 4-H Cooking Challenge. Facilitated by the EBCI Cooperative Extension Office, the program is helping youth make various dishes and learn an important life skill.
