Interior Department launches effort to preserve Federal Indian Boarding School oral history
The Department of the Interior announced on Tuesday, Sept. 26 the launch of an oral history project that will document and make accessible the experiences of the generations of Indigenous children who attended the federal boarding school system.
Earthworks in Ohio designated as the Nation’s 25th World Heritage Site
Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland applauded the decision on Tuesday, Sept. 19 by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to include on the World Heritage List Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, a group of eight ancient earthwork sites in southern Ohio.
Kituwah, LLC involved in new Sports Illustrated Resort in Tuscaloosa
Kituwah, LLC, an entity of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is involved in the development of a Sports Illustrated Resort in Tuscaloosa, Ala. – home of the University of Alabama. With an opening in late 2025, the Resort will be the first of several planned for college towns.

The 2021 Leadership Knoxville (LK) class consists of 54 outstanding individuals working to improve life in Knoxville, and a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) is in that group.

Charles K. “Bear” Johnson, 84, of the Yellowhill Community, stepped into his eternal heavenly home on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022. Bear is survived by Verna Arthur Johnson, the love of his life whom he met at Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan. They were married on Oct. 3, 2003.
