Sparta man pleads guilty to killing a bald eagle
Robert Garner Gambill, 91, of Sparta, N.C., appeared in federal court in Charlotte on Friday, Oct. 11 and pleaded guilty to killing a bald eagle, in violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

On Friday, March 10, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine was presented posthumously in honor of Lambert Wilson to his longtime partner, Jenny Holland. This award is North Carolina’s highest civilian award, given to those who have made notable contributions to their community.
