Snowbird NEST Program opens new facility
After raining all morning, the sun suddenly shone brightly through the clouds as the ribbon was cut on a building where youth are learning Cherokee language and traditions. The Snowbird NEST (Native Education Snowbird Traditions) Program opened a new facility on the morning of Monday, Dec. 9.

The first annual Tsalagi Aniwonisgi Didanvdadisdi (Cherokee Speakers Memorial Day) event was hosted by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the Kalvgviditsa Tsalagi Aniwonisgi Tsunatsohisdihi (Cherokee Speakers Place), located adjacent to the New Kituwah Academy in Cherokee, N.C.

On Sunday, Nov. 24, at approximately 5:35 p.m., the Blue Ridge Parkway Communications Center received a report of a lost hiker at Price Lake Trail, near milepost 296 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

COMMENTARY: Let’s Talk
In second grade, in Mrs. Herbert’s class at Cherokee Elementary School, there was a day where I decided to write in detail everything that happened in class that day and report it to the class. I was a shy kid, but my classmates and teachers were very supportive and receptive of my report. I realized then that I liked reporting. I liked telling stories and sharing them with others, and others appreciated it as well.

Tori Teesateskie, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, has been named a NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) DII Third Team All-American.
