The Costa Rica Eco-Study Tour would like to thank everyone who supported and made their recent fundraiser a great success. A total of $1,500 was raised to build a restroom facility for a school located in the Cabecar’ Village in Costa Rica.
While in Costa Rica, the students and chaperones will assist with building this facility and also with painting the school. The 2013 Team was instrumental in getting the plans and vision for this project started and also contributing some of the funds they raised last year, so this project is a joint effort between the 2013 team and 2014 team.
This year’s tour dates are June 16-27, and the 2014 team consist of ten students and six chaperones: Lou Montelongo, Eason Esquivel, Ethan Swearengin, Josh McCoy, Jason McMillian – Cherokee High School; Sadie Long – Smokey Mountain High; Faith Long – Swain High; Mellissa Hensley – Robbinsville High; Matti Sneed and Jaiden Welch – Jackson County Early College; chaperones are: Yona Wade, Hope Huskey, Nikki Crisp, John Ross, Jeremy Wilson and Tammy Jackson.
The team will continue with their fundraising efforts by selling their own special Costa Rican coffee “Tuya Café”. If you are interested in purchasing a bag contact any of the team members listed in this article. One pound bags are $15.
