BUS DRIVERS RECEIVE TRAINING

     On Wednesday, August 1 and Thursday, August 2, all of the Club’s Bus Drivers received a four-hour block of training on CPR and First Aid. Course instruction is being provided by Jason Clark of the EMS division.  All Bus Drivers are required by law to receive this training. 

 

CLUB OJT WORKERS COMPLETE SUMMER EMPLOYMENT

     This year the Boys Club enjoyed the participation of 14 students on the Club’s On-the-Job Summer Training program.  The following students were participants this year:  Constance Cline – Administration Department; Travis Hicks, Matthias Crowe, Zachary Smith and Cole Wildcatt – Construction and Facilities Department; Katlin Roberts, Jesse Toineeta and Austin Padilla – Graphics Department; Kelsey Jackson, Aubrey Little, Wesley Long and Abigail Long – Agelink Child Care Department; and Gabrielle McMillan and Austin Gunter – Club Garage/Shop Department.  The students and their respective department managers will enjoy an end-of-summer luncheon on Friday.

     The Boys Club’s number one purpose is to provide educational opportunities, vocational training and leadership experience for Cherokee people, especially youth.  The OJT program has proven to be very successful over the years for the students and for the Club also.

     Anyone who attended Cherokee Middle or Cherokee High School is eligible to vote for the Boys Club Board of Directors. 

     Five Board members will be elected in the August 23, 2012 election to serve a two-year term beginning October 1, 2012 and ending September 30, 2014.  Two outside business members will be appointed by the new board and one representative of the Boys Club’s Board is appointed by Tribal Council.  A representative from the student body of the school is elected by the student body to represent the School on the Board as well.
