The Cherokee Lady Braves (19-4) defeated the Highlands Lady Highlanders 80-48 in the last regular season game of the year on Monday, Feb. 11 at the Charles George Memorial Arena. 

The Smoky Mountain Senior Sapphires and Mini Diamonds Competitive Cheer Teams recently won awards at local events.

Thousands of scholar-athletes signed college letters of intent on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 6.  Three Cherokee Braves signed to play football at the next level including Damian Blanton (Brevard College), Isaiah Evans (Gardner-Webb University), and Joaquin Layno (Western Carolina University) during a ceremony at the Charles George Memorial Arena. 

Tony Wolfe, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians from the Yellowhill Community, has been selected to serve on the Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) Athlete Council. 

The Cherokee Lady Braves are heading into February tournament and playoff time in second place in the Big Smoky Mountain Conference and ranked third in the latest Maxpreps 1A poll (Feb. 1). 

New Vision Gymnastics and MGK Productions have teamed up to host the second annual Legends of the Smokies Gymnastics Competition on Feb. 1-3 at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort.

Late in a game at Robbinsville on Friday, Jan. 25, a Cherokee Lady Braves player took a pass from a teammate, turned, dribbled once, and drilled a 15-foot shot, and the crowd on both sides went wild. 

Sterling Santa Maria, Braves junior, hit a shot in the third period of a game at Robbinsville on Friday, Jan. 25 that was a milestone for him and helped his team win their sixth game of their last seven.
