The Cherokee Runners hosted a special 5K on Saturday, Oct. 11. The inaugural Legends and Tales 5K drew local runners – including the Cherokee High School cross country teams – as well as visitors from South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.

Darius Lambert, Cherokee Middle cross country team, took second place – for the second consecutive year – as Cherokee hosted the Smoky Mountain Conference middle school and high school cross country championships on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The Cherokee fans who braved the driving rain on the drive down to Andrews to watch the JV Braves (5-1) take on the Andrews JV Wildcats on Thursday, Oct. 9 were treated to clear skies, a rainbow and a pot of gold at the end.

It was a tough night for the Braves (3-4) as they traveled to Murphy on Friday, Oct. 3, but J.J. Benjamin, senior running back, ran tough all night long despite the scoreboard which had Murphy on top 56-20.

Cherokee’s defense held the Tigers scoreless until just before halftime and recovered four Tiger fumbles as Cherokee (4-1) dominated Rosman 48-20 at Ray Kinsland Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Cherokee junior, Tysha Sampson, carded a 94 to lead the Lady Braves against Highlands on Thursday Sept. 25 at the par-72, 5,932-yard Waynesville Inn – Golf Resort & Spa.

Brandon Buchanan, Braves quarterback, threw three touchdown passes to three different receivers and compiled almost 300 passing yards as he helped the Braves win their conference opener on Homecoming night.

Cherokee hosted a multi-school meet for high school and middle school teams on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
