Federal legislative updates of interest to EBCI citizens (Oct. 14)
The One Feather will now provide weekly legislative updates on various pieces of federal legislation of interest to members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The bills are shown in the order in which they were introduced following the new bills for the week.

Uktena Underground: Cherokee men in the 21st Century
Brothers Cory Junaluska and Kyzik Wachacha, both members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), have started a new podcast and clothing brand called Uktena Underground.
Those 3 NDN’s: Giggles and ghosts
Humor is one of the seven Cherokee core values. Friends Daltun “Falls a Lot” Watty, Justin “Running Snake” Lambert, and Gatlin “Squats to Pee” West have enveloped that core value fully with their YouTube channel, “Those 3 NDN’s”.

COMMENTARY: Staying healthy during flu season
As we find ourselves in the heart of flu season, Cherokee Indian Hospital is seeing an increase in patients testing positive for respiratory illnesses, including the flu, COVID-19, and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). This surge serves as an important reminder to all of us to remain vigilant about protecting our health and the health of our community.
COMMENTARY: We should consider elections for more leading positions in the Tribe
We have struggled for several years in attempts to create a constitution “by the people for the people”. The most recent failed attempt was six years in the making.
SPEAKING OF FAITH: Small beginnings
God is big, and we often think of Him in His grandiose state more than we consider Him in small things like a mustard seed or a yud. What’s a yud, you ask? The yud is the tenth and smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet. It is a small mark that looks like the English version of an apostrophe. The difference in what it means in Hebrew is much more critical.

FOOTBALL: Kanott selected to prestigious All-American Bowl
Ayden Kanott, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, has been selected to participate in the 2022 DREAM All-American Rising Stars football all-star game on Monday, Jan. 17 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Cherokee results from Murphy meet
The Cherokee High School Indoor Track & Field team traveled to Murphy High School for a meet on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Following are the results of CHS athletes:
Disc Golf course is coming soon to Cherokee
Soon, the Qualla Boundary will have a course as the Fire Mountain Disc Golf Sanctuary is set to open in Cherokee in the next few months.

OBITUARY: Justice Dara Taylor
Justice Dara Taylor, 27, of Cherokee, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends, Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025. Justice was born Aug. 28, 1997, to the late Lehua Joan Walkingstick and Darrell “Dragon” Taylor.

Joy Lee (Sissy) Allison Smith, 69, peacefully entered into the arms of her Savior on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025. Born on Jan. 17, 1956, in Cherokee, N.C., Joy was the beloved daughter of the late Ronald L. and Roberta Joan Allison.

Kristin Marie Lane, age 40, of the Big Witch Community in Cherokee, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at Park Ridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
