Wreath laid in Chief Youngdeer’s memory
The American Legion Steve Youngdeer Post 143 laid a wreath at the Cherokee Veterans Park to honor the memory of Beloved Man and former Principal Chief Robert Youngdeer. Youngdeer, 96, died Oct. 20. Youngdeer was principal chief from 1983-87.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has claimed Cherokee heritage, and it’s been a source of controversy among tribes and her Republican critics. While she isn’t a member of the Cherokee Nation, United Keetoowah Band or Eastern Band, she has maintained that she had the heritage.
