Beloved Man Chief Youngdeer passes away
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has lost a great leader, man, and servant. Beloved Man Robert S. Youngdeer, a former Principal Chief, passed away on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 20.
Tribal Court Docket for Oct. 25
This is a criminal docket date for the Cherokee Tribal Court. All of the defendants listed have only been charged with the crimes/offenses listed and should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Cherokee Youth Council (CYC) recently established the Seven Clans Grant Council (SCGC) that will give small grants that will benefit the youth of the Qualla Boundary.

New WCU chancellor to meet with communities
Western Carolina University Chancellor David O. Belcher will meet members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Swain County community in November as part of a “get acquainted tour” that will take WCU’s new chief executive officer to 15 stops during a four-month span.

SMC Basketball Tournament Brackets
Note: Ice and snow have delayed the Smokey Mountain Conference Basketball Tournament several times. These are the final brackets for the tournament set to start tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Cherokee High School Arena and Birdtown Recreation Center.
Regular Season draws to a close
The Cherokee Lady Braves finished their regular season on a high note on Tuesday, Feb. 9 with an 81-40 win over the Andrews Lady Wildcats.
