Democrat Brian McMahan will remain as chairman of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners after he defeated Republican challenger Ron Mau by a vote 8,475-6,393.

Cherokee Mites win Cracker Bowl
The Cherokee Mites capped off their season by defeating the Murphy Bulldogs 12-6 to win the 2010 Cracker Bowl on Saturday, Oct. 30. Cherokee DB Isaiah Evans picked off a Murphy pass with less than a minute left in the game to seal the victory for the Braves.
Braves fall to Tigers
Cherokee RB Dorian Walkingstick continued his ground assault Friday, Oct. 22 against Rosman gaining 211 yards on 25 carries and scoring four times. His performance wasn’t enough to garner a win against the Tigers who gained 435 total yards on offense. Cherokee fell to 3-6 on the year with a 43-39 loss to the Tigers (3-7).
Cherokee Mites are Cracker Bowl Bound
The Cherokee Mites are Cracker Bowl bound! They defeated the Jackson Co. Mites 12-0 in a playoff game held at Andrews High School on Saturday, Oct. 23 to advance to the championship this Saturday.
