Veteran dies by suicide at the Charles George VA Medical Center
On Sunday, Aug. 4, at approximately 8:48 a.m., a veteran died by suicide in the visitor parking lot of Charles George VA Medical Center. The Asheville Police Department is investigating the incident.

At approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, the northern area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Gatlinburg, Tenn. experienced extremely heavy rainfall causing multiple small rock slides, downed trees, and flash flooding along the Spur and Gatlinburg Bypass.
