The Cherokee One Feather invited each candidate for tribal office in the 2025 EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) election to submit a bio as well as answer the following questions: 1. Dinilawigi approves Principal Chief’s Day to be celebrated in conjunction with President’s Day
For the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), the third Monday in February will be celebrated from now on as Principal Chief’s Day in conjunction with President’s Day. Dinilawigi (Tribal Council) approved Res. No. 486 unanimously during its regular session on Thursday, July 10, which made the designation.

Braves showcase Broadway in fifth annual show
Songs and dances from Broadway filled the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center on the evening of Friday, Dec. 8. Students in the Cherokee Central Schools Dance and Musical Theatre Program put on the 5th Annual Braves on Broadway show.

The School Board of Cherokee Central Schools met on Monday, Dec. 4. The meeting included the CCS (Cherokee Central Schools) strategic innovation planning winter update, updates on the CCS lacrosse team, resolution approvals and salary adjustments.

For Jody Bradley Lipscomb, her art is a way to connect with and educate others about her heritage. A member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), she has shown her paintings in numerous exhibits and shows and currently has several pieces in the “This Land Calls Us Home” at the Atlanta Airport.

OBITUARY: David E. McCoy Sr.
David E. McCoy Sr., 64, of the Birdtown Community, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of the late Soloman (Bud) and Winona Delozier McCoy.
OBITUARY: Edmund (Eddie) Catolster
Edmund (Eddie) Catolster, 59, of the Wolftown Community, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024. A native of Cherokee, he was the son of the late Menoch Catolster and Mary Bell Welch Catolster.
OBITUARY: Larry Douglas Armachain Jr
Larry Douglas Armachain Jr., 42, of Cherokee passed away July 28, 2024, after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 31, 1982, to the late Larry Armachain and Pearl Wolfe. He was a crafter who was very adept at carving, and beadwork.

Goshorn wins NACF Artist Fellowship

Beatles tribute band comes to WCU on Feb. 9
“1964: The Tribute,” a band that re-creates the early music of the Beatles, will perform at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center at Western Carolina University.
