We continue to discuss what level of transparency is appropriate for our government. Clearly, there are things that we, the People, and we, the Government, agree should not be aired in public for the benefit of the Tribe.

It wasn’t that long ago that George W Bush and the Republicans made a big deal about Democrats wanting to withdraw our people from Iraq, he stated that “the party of FDR and Harry Truman has become the party of cut and run”.

I sat down a few days ago with the idea that I would churn out a quick article for October which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  I asked myself, “Why is this issue so important to members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee?”

For years, the Cherokee Indian Fairgrounds was an “animal prize” free zone. I know because I was the one who instituted the policy during the years that game vendors with live prizes were turned away. This year, for whatever reason, that policy was reversed or ignored.
