Drug issues, solutions discussed at Emergency Town Hall meeting
Most communities in the United States are facing issues related to substance abuse and drugs. Tribal leaders and officials of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians joined with tribal members at the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center on the night of Thursday, June 28 at an Emergency Town Hall Meeting to discuss the issue, but more importantly to discuss solutions.
Chief Sneed hosts meeting with business owners

That message rang through at an event, called “Breakfast with the Chief”, which was held at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort Locust Room on the morning of Thursday, June 28.

The previous expansion at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in 2013 was dubbed a “masterpiece”, and now tribal and gaming officials of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are expanding the canvas and adding more amenities to the property.

State banishment law increases penalty for those trespassing on tribal land
A new North Carolina state law increases the penalty for those who have been banished from tribal lands of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians who decide to try to return illegally. House Bill 744 was passed 109-0 on Wednesday, June 15 and was ratified by Gov. Roy Cooper on Friday, June 15.
WCU mourns the loss, celebrates the legacy of Chancellor David Belcher
The Western Carolina University community is mourning the loss of Chancellor David O. Belcher, who died Sunday, June 17, at the age of 60 after a more than two-year battle with brain cancer.
