On Super Bowl Sunday, some of the most talented eighth grade students from Cherokee Middle School turned off their televisions and headed to Greensboro to participate in academic and art competitions with more than 3,000 middle students from over 100 schools across North Carolina at the annual State Junior Beta Convention.

The Latin students at Cherokee middle and high school presented their Latin Christmas program prior to Christmas break with family, friends, Cherokee Central School faculty, and guests from the community in attendance.

Cecil Groves, president of Southwestern Community College since 1997, informed the board of trustees and college faculty and staff Tuesday evening, Jan. 26, that he will retire at the end of this academic year – June 30.
