New Kituwah Academy holds first senior walk

In 2004, the first Cherokee language immersion classroom opened at Dora Reed with babies around six months of age. The following year, an additional room was opened and in subsequent years more. In 2009, the first cohort were kindergarten students and moved into the new facility, Atse Kituwah Tsunadeloquasdi “New Kituwah Academy” on Sept. 28, 2009.

The coveted Frell Owl Award has been presented to a Cherokee basketball legend who has continued to give of her time and knowledge to help countless numbers of young players.  The 2021 Frell Owl Award was presented to Peaches Squirrell during a luncheon at Harrah’s Cherokee Convention Center on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 4.
