Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials announced the retirement of Chief Ranger, Steven Kloster, who will retire after 35 years of service. Steve has worked in the Smokies since 1988.
CHS students honored at Decision Day event
Cherokee High School held its first annual Decision Day event at the Chief Joyce Dugan Cultural Arts Center on the morning of Tuesday, May 1 to honor the seniors who have committed to a college or university, technical school, or military service after graduation.
Governor presents Order of the Long Leaf Pine to WCU’s Chancellor Belcher
Gov. Roy Cooper presented Western Carolina University Chancellor David O. Belcher with one of North Carolina’s highest civilian honors, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, in recognition of his contributions to the state.
Snowbird student marking graves in community
Quite a few graves in the Snowbird Community near Robbinsville are either unmarked or the markers have become unreadable due to years of wear. Ryen Bird, an EBCI tribal member from the Snowbird Community and a junior at Robbinsville High School, is working to remedy that situation.
